Reading the Wiki article versus the actual press article is interesting, it sounds more like a protest than a take over. The City also appears to be actively helping the protest by providing trash removal and chemical toilets.

Fun fact, there has never been a capitol of anything in Seattle’s capitol hill neighborhood.
Bonus fun fact: The Capitol Hill light rail station has two A-4 Skyhawks hanging from the roof, cut up into segments to make them look sort of like dragons.

I thought this was just the normal Capitol Hill Block Party. :)
Capitol Hill is an interesting place - crackheads stand on the sidewalk in front of the big Ferrari dealership, (world’s top dealer in 2013.) The location of that precinct was actually lobbied for to put police out in the community hoping to avoid situations like this. The other factor here is that folks are still PO’d about the WTO riots from a number of years ago. Interestingly, the police were criticized for not being aggressive enough in many circles back then. People have short memories...

I’ve been dancing around the fire during the protests. I’ve worked in Georgetown, White Center, Queen Anne, U-District, Alki, and Ballard during these events and m anaged to not run into anything yet. B ut my coworker couldn’t get to his own house because of a protest in Lake Stevens (~35 minutes north of Seattle). They wouldn't let him through to his street.

The guys they’d really have to worry about in Seattle seem to be taking a “distance from disorder” approach. They’ve making bank over the last few months. The police panic to the protests have kept business booming.

I remember WTO. They did virtually nothing the first day, then roughly arrested hundreds the second day. Settlements were into the many millions, and I suspect the general fund got to pay for it (I wouldn’t want to insure against police abuse cases) . Absolute fail.

Great time to own a gun store too, no doubt.
Several places have had armed inbreds from outside the area come in with confederate flags and similar material looking for fights in the name of “protection”. One in my town even had their vehicle (4x4 truck because of course) burned to the ground, what a shame. Those are who I worry about more than supposed antifa.

I get my haircut in the middle of that “zone”. I can say that many of the small businesses are fully in support of this, staying open all night as refuge centers providing food, water, etc.
Definitely an interesting situation to say the least.

One of the the G&A stores I delivered to last winter was close to bankruptcy. Just last week they signed a lease on a new, bigger place. Covid-19 gave them a huge influx of business, and now this.
Although personally, I attribute their success to the hiring of a phenomenal advertising intern, who spends her time on all sorts of nutty prepper forums as "one of them"

No, none of my friends are iron workers. One of my former acquaintances is probably in that “autonomous zone” trying to get people to do destructive shit (he’s not a cop).
I drove past the redneck militias in Scottsdale the other day. None of those types people have any real gear or training, so I’m not too worried about them. Shooting people is a lot harder than shooting beer bottles. They’ll be panicking and taping ammo to themselves if they they get scared.

I’ve heard the couple shops in Bellevue have had lines waiting before opening. Those guys are doing well. I’m still not to the point where I feel I need something like that, but if I moved elsewhere, even in the region, I might .
Definitely stoking paranoia would be a good way to drum up business.

From what I understand it’s not quite that big and they are actively working police to keep things chill. The ironic part is most people in that “zone” aren’t from Capital Hill. There’s certain demographic in that area that could honestly care less at people playing fort. They just want the neighborhood bars and restaurants open and no more tear gas wafting in their windows
